Google Introduces Video Search
Google, whose mission to organize the world's information has led their expansion to include TV programming, introduces Google Video search. The new search system enables users to search Google's growing online archive of televised content by searching all closed captioning texts of currently cataloged content. Now it's possible to easily and quickly find anything from sports and sportswear to documentaries and news programs.
“Our mission is to give viewers complete access to public affairs programming and we are committed to use new technologies to enhance the value of our services,” said Brian Lamb, C-SPAN Chairman and CEO. “This partnership with Google further demonstrates how new technologies will expand our audience and make it easier to conduct online searches of our content for information most relevant to them.”
While it's true, as the search giant has admitted, that c losed captioning isn't always accurate, and errors can occur during the transmission, Google continues indexing programs as it has since December of 2004. Apparently catching up with Yahoo! Video Search, whose current inept video search system is definitely counterbalanced by the width and depth of their selection, Google has a long way to go.
