Step 1

This is based on the picture, colors may vary. Open a new document and make the background a dark color. I used #333333. Next create a new layer and Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create a circle and fill it with any color. Next double click the layer in the layers palette and under styles click on the "Gradient Overlay" section. Accept the default settings. Angle should already be at 90 degrees. This circle will be your outer circle.

Step 2

Create a new layer and make a smaller circle that fits inside the original circle. Goto the same "Gradient Overlay" as described in step 1 and click on the "Gradient Bar"(color bar).You should now be in the "Gradient Editor". In the "Gradient Editor" change the left side to#333333. and the right side to #787878. Press "OK" to return to the "Gradient Overlay" menu.

Step 3

Next change the gradient angle from 90 degrees to -90 degrees. Press "Ok" and move yourcircle inside the bigger circle.

Step 4

Create a new layer and make smaller circle than the second circle and fill it with any color. Double click the layer and goto its "Gradient Overlay". click on the gradient bar to get to the "Gradient Editor". Change the left color to #016593 and the right color to #A3DAF3.

You should have a colored orb in the middle.

Step 6

Right click on the layer containing the previous circle and click on "Duplicate Layer". Go to Ctrl+click the duplicate to get a selection. Make a new layer and fill this selection with white and discard the duplicated layer. Goto your tools palette and make sure the Elliptical Marquee is selected. Ctrl+click the layer to select this new white circle and go to your document and Alt+Drag your mouse through the middle of the previous selection to the bottom right of the white circle. You should now be left with only the top half of the white circle selected. Don't lose your selection! next goto "Select" at the top of Photoshop and click on "Inverse". Press delete to delete the bottom half of the white circle. Set Opacity to50% and Fill to 50%. Move this object to the top of the colored orb. And you're done!
