Word Up!

You might all have seen this picture on a "funny pictures"-site or in a forward email:

It's very well done, but too bad it's in such a small resolution. So I decided to recreate it and this is what I came up with:

Word Up! Tutorial: Final Result

And of course, I did a reconstruction for you too. Read on

What do you need?

How do you start?

I worked with two Photoshop-files, one with the main setup, and another one for the blue piece with the rappers.

File 1: width = 550, height = 620, the width of the side image = 85

image 3

File 2: width = 460, height = 190, background color = 3D65A0

image 4

The layer style used on the cut out rapper images is "outer glow", size = 30, opacity = 75%, blending mode = screen, color = white

Then bring the two parts together.

image 5

Flatten the image - layer>flatten image - and place the side and front image on a separate layer (cut and paste).

image 6

Now, make a box of the desired dimensions with the 3D-transform tool - filter>render>3D transform - or copy this one (click for a bigger image).

image 7

Finally, transform the two images with transform>distort till they fit on the box.
