Abstract Light Cubes

1. Create a really cool abstract cube effect from a simple photograph in Adobe Photoshop! , it is a picture I took of a city from the Ocean:

2. This effect is really quite simple, but we will be using a filter that many people do not use in photoshop. Go to Filter > Other > Maximum:

3. As you can see, this is already turning all of our light colors into vibrant white squares. Turn down the radius a bit to get a more desirable effect (3 for a picture this size should be fine):

4. We can use this effect on lighter pictures in photoshop as well, and the effect should come out to be something quite different:

As you can see, it still works, but it is finding way to many really bright whit colors very close to each other. However, we can raise the radius to come out with a decent effect for a soft background or something else:
