Now you have the Render saved, open it up in Photoshop.

If you want to follow the tutorial exactly(be a Copy-cat), here is the render I made before, using the cinema 4d.

Just download the psd from there, and use the process below to make it a brush,

1. Select the Marquee tool, (M).

2. Right click on the render, and choose Load Selection.

3. Under Channel, it would say Alpha 1.If it does not then select it, and press Ok.

Explanation: Remember before you were to render in Cinema 4d, in Save Tab, I asked to check the ALpha Channel?.(If you don't, then take a look back it. )

This is what is was for. Once you are done with step #3, you will see a dotted aligh around the render in ps.it selects the render from c4d, and now you will be able to only have the render, and take out rest of the unwanted space.

4. Copy it (ctrl+c) and then paste it. (ctrl+v).

5. Delete the background Layer.

image 2

6. From here, there differs way to make use of the render.

7. Only reason I required to delete the Background was so I could use the render to make a Brush,

8. Edit-> Define Brush Preset and give it a name. I chose Render2.

Here is another Render, which you can make a brush out of, to use it. Since, I be using it in this tutorial.

9. New document with size 400x100 pixels. Create a new layer and fill it with black color.

10. Now create a new layer for brushing.

11. Press D. this will set the foreground color Black, and white for background.

12. Press X. It will switch the foreground with background, and vice-versa.

13. Now foreground color be white, select the brush tool.(B).

This is the setting I am using:

image 3

14. Here is where I click. Remember to change the brush to the brush of the render.

image 4

I made the black boxes above, on where was my first and second click. the result from it. Both of the click were in the same layer.

15. As you can see, it only took 2 clicks and you have a pretty nice render. This is one way to create a sig from a render. Just simple two clicks, and now you can use you own style to go from here. I could tell you few tricks on how to brush from here, but you can learn that from other tutorials. Here is a way to color it, and have more control over it.

16. You probably know about ctrl+u, or ctrl+b, to color a sig. Most people do not know that you can make a layer of these command in Photoshop. Here is what I mean.

17. Click on the icon called 1 in the below screenshot, and then from the list, select Hue/Saturation.

image 5

18. A new window comes up, and I used the setting below.

image 6

19. Now to add little variation in the color, go to that same icon in #17, but this time choose Color Balance... from the list.

Here are my setting.

image 7

image 8

20. Click okay. Now the colors look bit dull to me. Now to change the setting of the color. click at the spot below for Color Balance layer.

image 9

21. The window opens up again. if you do not already have Preserve Luminosity checked, check it, and the color should now look somewhat green.

image 10

22. Just for convenient, this icon is called Adjustment Layer, for remaining of the tutorial because the options in it list create a new layer,a nd these layer adjustment the look of the sig.

image 11

23. Since the SIg is little dark. go to Adjustment Layer list, and chose Brightness/contrast. I used

Brightness: +24

Contrast: +6

24. I do not like some of the parts, so I am gonna erase those. First of all. set the following setting for the Eraser.

image 12

25. Main thing is. That you use a soft circle, without any hardness, and for texture, use: Light Marble.

26. Before you start to erase. Click on the Brushing layer, and add Mask to it.

image 13

27. Changes:

image 14

image 15

Make sure, when you use the erase tool, it is erasing in the mask, not the layer itself.

*Explanation:

image 16

Not the box before the layer name? Before I used the erase tool on it it was all white. All those black in it, represent the area where I used the erase tool. Notice in the 2 images above of the sig, that the changes are same as the screenshot above. When you add mask to it, what PS does is, it adds black color, with eraser setting at that spot. At least, that is what I think,

28. What was the purpose of the Mask? Here is how it helps. Change o the Move tool (V) . Click on the chain below.

image 17

Once you click it, it goes above. Now try to move the layer around in the preview window. Now you be moving a black box around.

image 18

In the area inside of the rectangle, in the above screenshot. You might be able to see difference between layer. The thing to left of that line is the quick mask area, and left is the original Layer.

29. If you are confuse at this moment. Do not worry.

30. Add some brushing now, I guess... download the Abstract Brush pack 1.

31. Create new layer, below the Hue/Saturation layer.

32. Set foreground color to #925117

33. I used the following Brush, and changed the setting to normal.

image 19

34. Now I did some brushing.

image 20

Change the mode of the brushing to Color Dodge.

image 21

35. It places some light on the area, and direct the area more to that place.

36. Now on to add more effects.

37. I create a path using the pen tool, and then set brush in the Brush tool, to 1px for the soft circle..

38. Select the pen tool again, right click in the image area, CHose Stroke Path, then from the list chose, Brush. and then okay.

image 23

39. Now to intensify the effect to it. Duplicate the layer.

40. Then I selected the sponge tool, and did some brushing and so on.

My Final result:

C4D Twisted Abstract Tutorial: Final Result

41. Here is another sig I made using the Render.

Result:

image 25

image 26

42. Here is a, yet another, sig which is made using the two renders, but it is done differently.

Result:

image 27

43. And this is without the color Balance layer.

image 28

With Color Balance Layer:

image 29

44. I like the Color one better, so I can make the point on how much of a difference color amount can make.

My setting for the color Balance.

Midtones: +14, -59, +61

Shadows: -48, -1, -100

Highlights: Almost always, I never change these settings. They nv help me, may be different story for you..
