Step 1: Creating the Workspace:

Start with a 300 x 300 document, but before we continue make sure you are have seen the tutorial Fire Text I as this tutorial is a tweaked version of Fire Text I

Step 2: Create the base layer

Created your text on your document. I used the following font settings:

Tip: When creating your text make sure you use a bold setting as well as a quite big font size

Using a bold font and a big font size is good for this tutorial because all of the styles you will be applying will be making your text harder to read, however as long as you use a decent font size this should not be a problem!

Create some text like so and position it like I have:

image 2

Now rotate your canvas 90 degree Clock wise so your document it like so you can do this by going to Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CW

image 3

Then to Filters > Stylize > Wind and apply a setting of from the right once:

image 4

And then apply a setting of wind from the left once and then do this another two times (Pressing Ctrl + F twice can apply the wind setting without re-enter the menu)

image 5

This is what you should end up with when the document has not been rotated:

image 6

Once you have done this rotated the canvas back by going to Image > Rotate Canvas >90 CCW you should have something like this:

image 7

Now go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and apply this setting:

image 8

You should now end up with something like this:

image 9

Finally for this section go to Image > Apply image:

image 10

Click Ok.

Step 3: Add some colour in!

Next we need to add some colour so on the layer go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and apply the following:

image 11

This should give us a orange type colour like so:

image 12

Now duplicate this layer and again go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation but apply these settings:

image 13

This should give you this effect:

Step 4: Modifying layer modes

Now in your layers panel you should have something like this:

image 15

Highlight your red coloured text layer and change the layer mode to overlay:

image 16

After doing this you should end up with the end effect slightly different to Fire Text I:
