Right here and now, I am going to show you how to make a stylish logo my way.
1. Make a new image, any size and square. I used 300px by 300px.
2. Press d to reset the colours to default and press ctrl+backspace to fill the background with white, and then create a new layer by clicking the new layer button under your layers palette (shown below).
3. Get out the rectangular marquee tool (the tool on the top left of your tool palette) and at the top where its options are, set the style in the drop-down menu to fixed size. Give it a width of 20 px and a height that is the same height of your image (my height is, of course, is 300px).
4. Hold down shift and click on the page to make the selections with your rectangular marquee tool about an equal length apart. Then fill the selection with black (press d then x and then ctrl+backspace). Then press ctrl+d to deselect the image. You should have something like I have below.
5. Go to filter-->distort-->polar co-ordinates and set the option to rectangular to polar and press ok. If it looks something like mine below, you are doing good.
6. Whip out the elliptical marquee tool by holding down your click on the rectangular marquee tool icon and dragging sideways, a menu should appear and it should be there. Set the style at the top of the page to Fixed Size and set the width and height to 20 pixels. Click on the middle of the picture where the lines meet, drag your selection into the centre of the picture and delete it. Then press ctrl+d to deselect. It should look like mine below.
7. With the elliptical marquee tool still selected, change the fixed size at the top to 250px by 250 px and make a selection on your image like mine below. Do not do anything yet. With the elliptical marquee tool still selected, right-click inside the selection and go down to select inverse. Now press delete. Then press ctrl+d to deselect.
8. Next, go to filter-->blur-->gaussian blur and set it to 5.0 pixels.
9. Merge the 2 layers by pressing ctrl+e.
10. Go to image-->adjustments-->levels (alternatively press crtl+L) and set the input levels to 115, 1.00 and 156
11. Go to edit-->transform--> distort and drag the corners around until you get something you like. When you are happy with what you have, press enter to commit it.
12. Press ctrl+u and edit the hue and saturation. You need to check the colourize box and increase the lightness to make the colour show up.

But, with a little variation and creativity, you could end up with something like this:
There are various alterations that you could give this, just have a play around. You can only go as far as your creativity will take you ;)
